Therefore, each day, fill kerosene lamps, clean chimneys and trim wicks.
Wash windows once a week. 

4. The nurse’s notes are important in aiding the physician’s work.
Make your pens carefully; you may whittle nibs to your individual taste. 

5. Each nurse on day duty will report at 7 a.m. and leave at 8 p.m. except on the Sabbath, on which day you will be off from 12 noon to 2 p.m. 

6. Graduate nurses in good standing with the Director or Nurses will be given an evening off each week for courting purposes or two evenings a week if you go regularly to church. 

7. Each nurse should lay aside from each pay day a goodly sum of her earnings for the benefits during her declining years so that she will not become a burden to her family. For example, if you earn $30 a month, you should set aside $15. 

8. Any nurse who smokes, uses liquor in any form, gets her hair done at a beauty shop or frequents dance halls will give the Director of Nurses good reason to suspect her worth, intentions and integrity. 

9. The nurse who performs her labours and serves her patients and doctors without fault for five years, will be given an increase of 5 cents a day, providing there are no hospital debts outstanding.

i want to be a good nurse but nib whittling was never full explained in nursing college.  as you can see dave was a bit shocked as well.

if anyone has the winter blues im ready.  got my little hat, my thermometer and my cheery smile.  all ready for my first patient and keep practicing my there there youll be alright.  oh by the way im not very good with blood.  hope this isnt a problem.

apologies to vivavoce and others.  it has taken ages but with daves help i have finally managed to get all you favourite words in one verse.  the difficulties have been mostly technical.  because of a lack of space and also because some words were similar any near duplicates have been omitted and some words may have been shortened.  now as dave explained and trev can probably confirm there is a limit on the number on concatenated strings that the server can handle.  added to this is the other server limitation when it comes to manipulating boolean comparisons.  daves really clever.  this means that some of the words had to have some of their letters removed and in other words the letters had to be rearranged in a slightly different order.  i think youll agree that despite all this we never lost touch with the original words or their meanings and that despite some artistic abbreviation it still makes sense.

       so here we go.  all your favourite words in one verse.  and if you think you can’t see your favourite word just have another glass and read it again.  youre sure to see it eventually.

i went to website once where you had to list your favourite 20 words.  i had a go but i couldn’t get to 20.  they don’t have to be words that describe you.  just words that you like the sound of or have nice associations or bring back special memories.  anyway here is my small list.

gold – it can be warm and smooth.  better than diamonds which I think are hard sharp and cold.

felixstowe – very special memories.  and such a quaint name.

darjeeling – I know its a sort of tea or a place in india or somewhere but I just love to say the word.

silk – a word that sounds like it feels.  the slippery shiny silky silkiness of silk next to your skin.  a lovely feeling. 

abracadabra - its just magic.

ozymandias – he was a king or something in a poem we had to learn at school.  imagine giving the name to your kid and calling him ozzy for short.

leather – the smell and the feel of it.

haberdashery – the sort of shop my grandmother would go to.  but where on earth did the word come from.  they dont sell habers or dasherys.  its a mystery.

perhaps the list reveals something about me.  i am a touchy feely sort of person.  but its only a list of words.  what do you think.  what are your favourite words.
